How to use swatches

Look at your swatches in natural daylight, and again in the lighting you expect on the day, whether that is candlelight, a marquee or a church. Hold them beside your flowers, your wedding dress and the groomsmen's ties. If you are mixing shades, lay them side by side to check they work together. If you are choosing for a large bridal party, ask each bridesmaid to see the swatch in her own home, because skin tone changes how a colour looks.

Choosing the right fabric

Fabrics change the character of a colour. Satin has a gentle sheen that makes shades look richer, while crepe is matt and can look deeper. Chiffon is soft, tulle is light and airy, and velvet has a depth that is unlike any other fabric.
