Best places to buy flower girl dresses in the UK

An honest guide on dressing every age in your bridal party, and an answer for the tween-and-teen middle that the high street keeps forgetting.

The TH&TH Flower Girl, Junior & Teen Collection

Founder Louie's Note

I spent far longer than I'd like to admit trying to find a flower girl dress for my eight-year-old daughter that didn't look either like a christening gown or a discount prom dress. At some point, I realised I wasn't imagining it, there's a real gap in the UK market for elegant, modern flower girl dresses.

Everything felt either too babyish or far too grown up. I just wanted something timeless, stylish and age-appropriate that she would love wearing. So we decided to make our own at TH&TH....

The five frustrations brides keep telling us about

We speak to so many brides to be and parents in our inbox and on the DMs that come in at 11pm. And the same five frustrations come up again and again. So I want to lay them out honestly, and tell you, just as honestly, how we set out to solve each one when we were designing the TH&TH flower girl & teen collection.

"Everything looks like a christening gown or a tiny adult cocktail dress"

Brides describe walking into stores and finding two extremes — tulle puffballs covered in artificial flowers, or strappy mini-versions of a cocktail dress that feel too grown-up for an eight-year-old. There is very little in between. One bride put it neatly: "everything is either too cutesy or too revealing." If you want quiet, modern, well-made, your options narrow fast.

— The TH&TH Answer

This is exactly the brief Kitty and I gave ourselves. Every junior dress we make is the younger sister of an adult silhouette in our main range, same fabric, same cut philosophy, same considered restraint. No artificial flowers, no plunging necklines, no costume detailing. Just chiffon and satin, well cut, in a colour palette designed for grown-up weddings. See the collection.

"She's twelve and the high street has nothing"

The single biggest cliff-edge in UK kidswear is age eleven. We have so many parents trying to find dresses for thirteen and fourteen year olds, they've tried John Lewis, ASOS, Zara, M&S and Next, and reported that adult size 6 and 8 dresses still don't fit a developing teen body properly. "My daughter is fourteen and I want her to look her age, not an extra at a hen do," wrote one parent to us.

— The TH&TH Answer

Our co founder Kitty has been designing girlswear for alomost 20 years so we have the expertise on how to design, style and fit. Our junior dresses are made in true junior sizes 8, 10, 12 and 14 years — and crucially, they're cut on a junior block, not a shrunk-down adult one. The shoulder spacing, the bodice depth, the hemline rise: all drafted for an actual 8–14 year old body. If your fourteen-year-old is between sizes, our customer service team (yes, real humans, based in the U.K.) will help you choose. We do this every day.

"I ordered from a cheap site and what arrived was unwearable"

Brides keep getting burnt by ultra-cheap dropship sites. Scratchy polyester that feels like cling film, unfinished seams, colours that bear no resemblance to the photo. A flower girl dress that arrives smelling of solvents is not the welcome-to-the-wedding-party moment anyone wanted.

— The TH&TH Answer

We'd rather be transparent than fast. Our junior dresses are made from the same fabrics and the same finishing as our adult collection — the chiffon you'd want to wear yourself, the liquid satin that drapes properly, fully lined for comfort, with concealed zips and finished seams. Made in our own atelier, clear lead times, simple returns.

"The colours never quite match"

"Sage green" from one retailer is a completely different sage from another. Chiffon green is not satin green. Coordinating across kids' and adult ranges is one of the most quietly stressful parts of bridal-party styling, and almost nobody talks about it until the wedding photos come back.

— The TH&TH Answer

This is the single biggest reason we built the junior range. Every junior dress is dyed in the same dye lots as our adult bridesmaid collection — so the dusty eucalyptus on a Phoebe Junior is exactly the dusty eucalyptus on an adult Phoebe, photographed under the same flash, in the same light it will look identical, because it is.

The missing middle: why dressing 8 to 14 is the hardest part of bridal-party styling

Children's occasionwear stops at around eleven or twelve. Adult bridesmaid dresses start at a UK 4/6 — but a UK 6 is cut for an adult woman's torso, hips and bust. A twelve-year-old's body simply isn't proportioned that way. The result, every wedding season, is the same conversation: "the smallest adult dress we ordered swamps her shoulders and gapes at the bust."

Brides end up doing one of three things

Putting her in a much younger dress (she feels patronised in the photos). Putting her in an adult bridesmaid dress that doesn't fit (the alterations bill rivals the dress itself). Or skipping her role altogether, which is heartbreaking, and a story we hear too often.

None of those is the right answer. The right answer is a dress designed from the start for the 8–14 body, in the same fabrics and colours as the adult dresses. That's genuinely hard to find in the UK. It's the precise reason we built our junior & teen range, and it's the part of the business I'm proudest of.

What we look for in a good flower girl or junior dress

If you want a single mental checklist before you click "buy", here's mine. These are the criteria we use ourselves when we sample our own range, and they cover most of the regrets I hear about after the fact.

Fabric you'd happily wear yourself

Ask: what is the lining? A soft, breathable polyester is fine. Stiff netting will be itchy by the end of the ceremony. For very young flower girls, fabric is the difference between "the best day of my life" and a meltdown during the speeches.

Age-appropriate necklines and lengths

Keep necklines higher than you would for an adult bridesmaid; keep hemlines at or below the knee for under-eights; ankle-length is the sweet spot for ages eight to fourteen. Avoid plunging V-necks, deep cut-outs and anything strapless on under-fifteens — even if she begs.

A real return policy and a realistic delivery date

Children grow. Even ordering three months out, you'll want the option to exchange a size up.

Made by a brand that designs for children — not just shrinks adults

A genuinely well-cut junior dress has a different bodice block, different shoulder spacing, different proportions in the skirt — not just an adult pattern scaled to seventy-five percent. It's how every TH&TH dress in our flower girl & junior collection is drafted from scratch.

The best places to buy flower girl dresses in the UK

I'm going to be honest — the right answer to "where should I buy" depends almost entirely on her age. So below is how our two collections at TH&TH break down: what we make, who it's for, and how each piece sits inside the wider bridal party. We cover the whole age span, from twelve months through to fourteen years, and we cover it in the same fabrics and the same dye lots as our adult range.

12 months – 8 years
The TH&TH Flower Girl range

Our flower girl range is cut for the very littlest members of the bridal party — from twelve months through to age eight. The brief here is fabric you'd be happy for her to wear all day (our chiffons and satins, fully lined, soft against the skin), simple silhouettes that don't compete with her, and colours pulled from the same palette as our adult bridesmaid collection. Comfortable enough for a long ceremony, pretty enough for the photographs you'll keep forever.

8 – 14 years
The TH&TH Junior & Teen range

This is the gap I keep talking about — and it's the part of the collection we're proudest of. Junior dresses sized 8, 10, 12 and 14 years, cut on a true junior block (not a shrunk-down adult one), with age-appropriate necklines, longer ankle-length skirts, and the same liquid satins and chiffons we cut for the adult range. If she's twelve and she's been told she has nothing to wear: this is where to look.

Full bridal party
Where TH&TH earns its keep

Where TH&TH really comes into its own is when you're dressing the whole bridal party. Our flower girl, junior and adult bridesmaid dresses share fabric mills, dye lots and silhouette DNA — so a three-year-old in Poppy and our chiffon sash, an eleven-year-old in our chiffon, and your maid of honour in our chiffon will read as one wedding in every photograph.

Ones to avoid
If she'll be in the photos forever

I'd think very hard before ordering a child's wedding outfit from any site without a UK returns address, a clear fabric composition listed on every product, or a delivery date you can hold them to. The photographs may look fine on the page. The dress that arrives often does not match them. For something she'll be in the photographs of forever, it isn't worth the risk.

Our flower girl, junior & teen collection — designed for every age

We started TH&TH because we couldn't find bridesmaid dresses we wanted to wear ourselves. We extended into flower girl, junior and teen for exactly the same reason — friends and customers kept telling us they had dressed every adult bridesmaid in beautiful chiffon or satin, then hit a wall the moment they tried to dress a three-year-old or an eleven-year-old to match. Every dress in our flower girl range is sized 12 months – 8 years, and our junior range is sized 8, 10, 12 and 14 years. Same fabrics, same dye lots, same design DNA as the adult range. Here are six flagship pieces — flower girl, sash, junior and teen.

No. 01 — The Flower Girl

Poppy in Ivory

A soft ivory flower girl dress with a matching sash — the start of the bridal party.

Poppy is where the bridal party begins. Designed for the very littlest ones — from twelve months through to age eight — and cut from the soft, lightweight fabric we use across the rest of the range. A simple, ankle-length silhouette that lets her be a child. Wear it on its own, or pair it with our matching flower girl sash (No. 02, below) for a ribbon of colour pulled straight from your bridesmaid palette. Fully lined, soft against the skin.

No. 02 — The Sash

The Matching Flower Girl Sash

A simple ribbon sash, dyed in our bridesmaid colours.

The smallest detail that pulls the whole party together. Our matching flower girl sash is a soft ribbon designed to tie at the waist of Poppy (or any of the flower girl dresses in your range), dyed in the same colours as our adult bridesmaid collection so a flower girl in ivory and a sage sash sits beside an adult bridesmaid in sage and reads as one wedding. Order it in your accent colour, tie it loosely, and let it move with her.

No. 03 — The Chiffon

Phoebe Junior

A wrap-bodice chiffon mirrored on our most-loved adult silhouette.

Phoebe Junior is the dress I point most brides to first. It mirrors our adult Phoebe and Athena chiffon dresses in fabric and silhouette, so a junior bridesmaid in Phoebe Junior stands beside her older sisters or aunts in adult Phoebe and the look reads as one family of dresses. Wrap-style bodice with a soft V re-cut for age-appropriate coverage, delicate flutter sleeves, ankle-length pleated skirt, complementary V-back, concealed zip, tied chiffon sash. Shown here in our Dusty Eucalyptus chiffon — designed to coordinate with the adult Phoebe in the same dye lot.

No. 04 — The Satin

Nala Junior & Teen

A Grecian-cut, liquid-satin silhouette with a keyhole back.

If your adult bridesmaids are in satin, Nala Junior is your answer. Cut from our signature liquid satin in a Grecian-inspired silhouette, with a graceful boat neckline, soft pleating through the bodice, a delicate keyhole back finished with an invisible zip, and a fluid drape that moves beautifully through the day. Available in floor length, which is a small detail brides love because it means a tall fourteen-year-old isn't wearing a hemline that hits her shins. Shown here in our Champagne Sky satin — soft and quietly luminous.

No. 05 — The Modern

Zara Junior

A clean one-shoulder line with a single, deliberate bow.

For a slightly more grown-up junior bridesmaid look — particularly the twelve-to-fourteen end of the range — Zara Junior brings a clean, modern one-shoulder line with a soft bow detail at the shoulder. Concealed zip, smooth seamless fit, ankle-length skirt. It coordinates exactly with our adult Zara silhouette and pairs beautifully with the rest of our satin styles in the same palette. Shown here in Rose Pink — sweet without being childish, and one of our most-photographed colours.

No. 06 — The Editorial

Tilly Junior

A draped cowl, adjustable shoulder ties — quiet, modern, grown-up.

Tilly Junior is the one I recommend most often when a teen bridesmaid wants to feel "a bit more grown-up". A softly draped cowl neckline, delicate adjustable shoulder ties, a fluid liquid-satin skirt that swishes properly when she walks. It reads as elegant and modern, not pageant — exactly the brief most thirteen and fourteen year olds give us when we ask what they actually want to wear. Shown here in French Blue — cool-toned, photographs beautifully, and pairs effortlessly with our adult satin range.

How to coordinate flower girls, juniors and adult bridesmaids without losing your mind

The brides I've watched get this right tend to follow the same three rules.

Rule one — fabric first, colour second, silhouette third

Fabric is the thing that catches the light in photos.  Choose if you are matching everything or having a tonal mix and match vision, and your line-up will read as a deliberate choice.

Rule two — order from one brand wherever possible

I'm not pretending this isn't self-interested, but it's also just true. The colour, the fabric weight, the lining, even the way the dye reads under photography flash, all match up cleanly when the same brand has cut the whole party. (At TH&TH, we deliberately make every age in the same dye lots for exactly this reason.)

Rule three — dress the youngest in the simplest version of the silhouette

A six-year-old in a sash and full skirt looks adorable. A six-year-old in a cowl neck and shoulder ties looks like she's borrowed her mother's dress. Save the more grown-up details for the older girls and adult bridesmaids — visual hierarchy will read beautifully in photographs.

Sizing, fabric & ordering — the practical bit

Our flower girl dresses are sized 12 months – 8 years; our junior dresses are sized 8, 10, 12 and 14 years, cut on a true junior block. If your flower girl or junior bridesmaid is between sizes, I'd usually recommend sizing up — children grow, and our fits are designed to be flatteringly skim-cut rather than tight. There's a full size guide on every product page.

Fabric & care

Our flower girl, junior and teen dresses are fully lined and made from the same fabrics as the adult range. Dry-clean recommended, designed to take the rigours of a full wedding day.

Lead times & UK delivery

We ship across the UK with clear lead times on every product page. As a rule of thumb: order at least twelve weeks before the wedding if you can.

Returns & exchanges

UK returns are straightforward and we have a real, human customer-service team based in the U.K. who will actually answer your email. I mention this because it isn't a given on every site — and on a children's wedding outfit it really matters.

— A Note From Louie —

Why we built this part of TH&TH

When Kitty and I started TH&TH, the question we got asked most by our brides was the same one, in slightly different words: "do you do this dress for my niece?" "What about my flower girl?" "My twelve-year-old wants to be a bridesmaid — can you help?" For a long time we didn't have an answer. We sent people to the high street and we knew it would be hit-and-miss.

Building the flower girl, junior & teen collection wasn't easy. It meant new size blocks, new fittings, new neckline calibrations, new lead times. But every wedding day photograph I will see now — flower girl in Poppy, junior in chiffon, bridesmaid in the same chiffon, all in the exact same dye lot — makes it the bit of the business I'm proudest of. If you've read this far, thank you. And if you have a question this guide didn't cover, our inbox is always open.

Frequently asked questions

The questions our customer-service team answers most often, set down here in one place for the brides searching late at night.

Where is the best place to buy flower girl dresses in the UK?

UK bridal specialists TH&TH offer a flower girl range from twelve months to eight years and a junior & teen bridesmaid dress range from eight to fourteen years — all cut in the same fabrics and dye lots as our adult bridesmaid collection.

What is the difference between a flower girl and a junior bridesmaid?

A flower girl is generally aged 3–8 and walks down the aisle scattering petals. A junior bridesmaid is aged roughly 9–14 and takes on a more bridesmaid-like role.

What ages do TH&TH flower girl, junior & teen dresses fit?

Our flower girl range is sized for ages 12 months – 8 years (Poppy in ivory is our flagship), and our junior & teen range is sized 8, 10, 12 and 14 years.

How do I match flower girl dresses to my adult bridesmaid dresses?

Match the fabric first (chiffon to chiffon, satin to satin), then the colour, then keep the silhouette deliberately simpler on the youngest girls. TH&TH is built precisely around this.

How early should I order junior bridesmaid dresses?

Twelve weeks before the wedding is a sensible minimum. For very large bridal parties or for bespoke colour matching, I'd suggest sixteen weeks.

Dress every age in your bridal party.

The hardest part of bridal-party styling isn't the adults — it's everyone under fifteen. We built our flower girl, junior & teen collection — twelve months through to fourteen years — to take that headache off your list.
